Why visit your Pediatrician NOW for a Well Child Visit?

Let’s face it, all reliable health sources estimate that we are into the COVID-19 pandemic for months ahead of us. One question we keep having is, “Considering COVID-19, should I visit my pediatrician or, delay a well-child visit?” The answer depends on many factors, your child’s age, health and the family to which they are exposed to.

All healthcare decisions should consider weighing risks and benefits. Missing your scheduled well visits may limit a doctor’s ability to catch developmental, social, and emotional conditions early on when there is still an opportunity for early intervention. Additionally, you may hinder the important process of protecting your child from serious illness through vaccination.

Waiting may not be a good idea for children younger than 2, specifically babies 6 month and younger, children with special health conditions or children behind on immunizations. In addition, students entering kindergarten and seventh grade, and new students to Palm Beach County are required, by the school district, to provide an official physical exam and an official proof of immunization.

Every situation is a bit different with other variables (like insurance availability) to take into consideration. Your communication with a pediatrician that knows your child and understands your unique family’s conditions, plays an important role.
