πA TEAL PUMPKIN CAN MAKE HALLOWEEN MORE INCLUSIVE!
October 16, 2026Did you know that Halloween can be challenging for children with food allergies? π»π¬
For some children, a traditional trick-or-treat bag filled with candy can come with worries about allergens and the risk of an allergic reaction. But with a little planning, we can help make Halloween safer, more inclusive, and fun for EVERY child!
π What is the Teal Pumpkin Project?
The Teal Pumpkin Project, led by Food Allergy Research & Education (FARE), raises awareness about food allergies and encourages families to offer non-food treats so children with food allergies can participate in Halloween festivities more safely.
π How can your family participate?
π» Place a teal pumpkin outside your home to let families know you offer non-food treats.
π·οΈ Offer fun alternatives like stickers, glow sticks, pencils, bubbles, temporary tattoos, or small Halloween toys.
π¬ Keep non-food treats separate from candy to help prevent cross-contact.
π» Never assume a treat is safe for a child with a food allergy. Encourage families to check ingredient labels and follow their child’s allergy safety plan.
β¨ A small gesture can make a BIG difference! By offering a non-food treat, you can help children with food allergies feel included, welcomed, and excited to join in the Halloween fun.
Let’s work together to make Halloween a little safer and a lot more inclusive for all our little ghosts and goblins! π»
